wines from the supermarket, this week the Co-op

Having had to eat my words about the Co-op, after finding out what a rich gold seam it is for wine, we are back. It has to be said that so far, out of all the supermarkets, the Co-op have provided good wine at good prices. I was very impressed last time, maybe I caught them on a good day, because the offers didn't seem as rampant in the wine aisle this time.
The two wines I have chosen this week are both from Portugal, both reduced from £8.99 to £4.49 and both blends.
The white is called "Storks Landing" and comes from the Vinho Regional Lisboa, which is the wine producing region North of Lisbon. The blend is made up of Fernao Pires and Chardonnay grapes.



The grapes come from the vineyards of Jose Neiva Corrreia. The wine is very pale, with just the subtlest of yellow hues. The nose is quite cidery, if that is a word? Loads of juicy red apples and fragrant with it. The gentle cider carries on and is joined by a zesty lemon and Aloa Vera gel. The blend seems to work well and is certainly good for the money.

The red is called "two ravens" and comes from the North of Portugal.The two ravens can be found in Lisbon city's coat of arms.
The blend is made up predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon, with a hint of Touriga Nacioal. It is a nice deep red, with a cherry compote nose. I got liquorice and sawn pine too.
The taste is a  plush cherry and dark chocolate. It has a very Port-esk quality to it, with fig and dried fruit . The finish is feels quite alcoholic,with a taste similar to Cherry Kirch.

Once again the Co-op have come up trumps, with two very nice wines and two very nice prices. Enjoy.
